Extremal catacondensed benzenoids

AbstractSome results with respect to Hosoya index and Merrifield-Simmons index of tree-type hexagonal systems (catacondensed hydrocarbons) are shown. Using the results, the tree-type hexagonal systems with minimum, second minimum Hosoya index and maximum, second maximum Merrifield-Simmons index are determined. These results generalize some known results on extremal hexagonal chains.
