Description: Based on the theoretical and empirical foundations of the gravity model, this article systematically investigates the determinants of international tourist arrivals to China. Various origin-destination (O-D) linked factors accounting for the economic, political and social/culture preferences between China and its tourist origins are particularly explored. Utilizing a panel data set of tourist arrivals to China from 21 countries from 1995 to 2014, the results suggest that the basic gravity determinants all have significant effects on tourist arrivals to China. Furthermore, four O-D linked factors are found to be significant in explaining the number of international tourists and have a greater tourist-enhancing effect. In particular, overseas Chinese, proxying for social/culture-preferential relationships, have caused significant increases in tourism arrivals to China of approximately 120% when the percentage of ethnic Chinese in the origin countries' population is more than 1%. Description: In this paper, a distributed resource allocation problem with nonsmooth local cost functions is considered, where the interaction among agents is depicted by strongly connected and weight-balanced digraphs. Here the decision variable of each agent is within a local feasibility constraint described as a convex set, and all the decision variables have to satisfy a network resource constraint, which is the sum of available resources. To solve the problem, a distributed continuous-time algorithm is developed by virtue of differentiated projection operations and differential inclusions, and its convergence to the optimal solution is proved via the set-valued LaSalle invariance principle. Furthermore, the exponential convergence of the proposed algorithm can be achieved when the local cost functions are differentiable with Lipschitz gradients and there are no local feasibility constraints. Using the framework of field-of-values-equivalence, we first study the preconditioned Krylov space method for the continuous problem in the setting of Hilbert spaces. The algebraic preconditioner for the discrete problem is then obtained by representing the preconditioner for the continuous problem in finite element spaces. Description: The Hegselmann-Krause (HK) model is a typical self-organizing system with local rule dynamics. In spite of its widespread use and numerous extensions, the underlying theory of its synchronization induced by noise still needs to be developed. In its original formulation, as a model first proposed to address opinion dynamics, its state-space was assumed to be bounded, and the theoretical analysis of noise-induced synchronization for this particular situation has been well established. However, when system states are allowed to exist in an unbounded space, mathematical difficulties arise, whose theoretical analysis becomes non-trivial and is as such still lacking. In this paper, we completely resolve this problem by exploring the topological properties of HK dynamics and employing the theory of independent stopping time. The key idea in this work is the replacement of traditional smoothers by the one level overlapping domain decomposition method on coarse grids. The proposed multilevel method then serves as a preconditioner in the outer GMRES iteration. Numerical results show that for fixed wave numbers, the convergence of our multilevel method is independent of the mesh size. By adding stochastic dithers to local objective functions and constructing randomized differences motivated by the Kiefer-Wolfowitz algorithm, we propose a distributed subgradient-free algorithm for finding the global minimizer with local observations. Moreover, we prove that the consensus of estimates and global minimization can he achieved with probability one over the time-varying network, and we obtain the convergence rate of the mean average of estimates as well. This paper further investigates the importance of distinguishing China's processing trade in multicountry input-output table-based studies. We focus on the bias in China's bilateral trade in value added caused by China's undistinguished processing trade. We construct a product-by-product world input-output table capturing China's processing trade based on the World Input-Output Database. Empirical studies show that, if China's processing trade is undistinguished, the profile of China's bilateral trade in value added would be seriously distorted; China's bilateral net trade in value added with some economies, such as Japan, Korea and Taiwan, would be significantly underestimated, while it would be significantly overestimated for some other economies, such as the United States. Description: The growth of vehicle ownership not only brings opportunity for the economy, but also brings environment and transport problems, which is not good for sustainable transportation. It is of great significance to build supporting infrastructure and other services based on accurate forecasts of vehicle ownership in various provinces because of the variance of economic development stages, the carrying capacity of resources, and different degrees of transport planning in each province. We used the Gompertz model in order to predict China's provincial vehicle ownership from 2018 to 2050. Considering the impact of the population structure, we summed up the growth rate of GDP per labor, the growth rate of population and the growth rate of employment rate to get the growth rate of GDP and then the GDP per capita of each province. We found that the vehicle ownership in each province will grow rapidly in the next 30 years; however, the change in the ranking of vehicle ownership among provinces varies. The ranking of some provinces with high or middle ranking now will decline in the following years, especially Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Xinjiang. While the ranking of some provinces that locates in the middle and low ranking now will increase, such as Chongqing, Hubei, Anhui, Sichuan, Heilongjiang, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guangxi.
