AbstractA hierarchy of bilinear Lotka-Volterra equations with a unified structure is proposed. The bilinear Backlund transformation for this hierarchy and the corresponding canonical Lax pair are obtained. Furthermore, the nonlinear superposition formula is proved rigorously.
